The Beagle dog breed isn’t high maintenance when it comes to their grooming needs. They have a short coat but that doesn’t mean you bath them once a year. They need to be groomed regularly just like any other animal. I have found that the more you groom your Beagle at home, they build a special trust and bond with you. When you touch their paws often when cleaning them and just friendly petting, this can make it easier on everyone when they go into get their nails trimmed if you don’t do that at home yourself.

During your Beagles bath is the perfect time to give them a physical inspection to make sure everything is okay with their body. Running your hands along their body, behind the ears, legs and stomach and also checking inside the ears is a good way to familiarize yourself with how things look so when something is wrong, you will be able to spot it right away. In that case, you would want to take them to the vet.

I choose to give my dogs their flea treatments after I give them their baths. This way they are clean and free of fleas and you don’t risk washing off the treatment you just gave them. When it comes to cleaning their eyes and ears you can purchase gentle cleansing solutions at your vet or from the local pet store. These things are just as important as anything else. Dirty eyes and ears can lead to infections and then your dog will be in pain and you will be spending a lot of money at the vet.

Just keep up on the regular grooming and everyone will be happy, clean and healthy!

The first and most important thing for you to do when you welcome your new beagle puppy into your family is to get him/her all necessary vaccinations. It’s smart to start them on flea and heart worm prevention as soon as they are old enough so that they don’t have serious health issues.

Finding the right dog food for your puppy is vital to it’s health. Not all dog breeds require the same nutrition regimen. Learning how to read the nutrition labels on dog food is very helpful and you will also feel better about what they are eating. You can consult your vet or do your own research and find what’s best. It’s never a good idea for your dog to intake your leftovers from dinner or any other meal. This can cause health problems and quite possibly some bad table side manner (begging). If you want to reward your Beagle, they will never turn down a good dog treat.

Grooming for Beagles isn’t too excessive but necessary a couple times of week. They just need a thorough brushing a few times a week to keep their coat healthy and rid of any excess in their fur. Bathing them once or a couple times a month is needed as well. Clean the ears with wipes or a solution to prevent any kind of ear infection or build up.

The Beagle breed can be very stubborn so when in the training process and just everyday situations it’s important to be consistent with them. Rewarding them with dog treats works great with these dogs as they love their praise and their food! Keeping your Beagle happy and in good health can keep them around for 15 yrs. or so.

The Beagle breed tends to have a short attention span when it comes to training so it’s a good idea to keep the training sessions consistent and short. Beagle puppies do learn quickly as they are very intelligent dogs. You want your puppy to learn good habits from the very start so rewarding your puppy when they do good is a great technique and a very important part of puppy training. They want to please you and they want the treat so it’s a win win situation for the both of you.

Potty training your Beagle can take some time but they will catch on. You could teach your dog to touch a bell on the door anytime they need to go out if there is not access to a dog door in your house. As a puppy, putting them on a leash and taking them to one spot in the yard to go to the bathroom also has been very effective. Otherwise, they will go sniffing around the yard for quite some time and will be on their own schedule and not yours. This way they will know they are out there to go to the bathroom and not for a scavenger hunt.

Beagles are great family dogs and good with children. They are loyal, affectionate and very playful. They are smart and can be very stubborn if they don’t get their way. If you need to know what to feed your Beagle, how much exercise they should get, what kind of toys they want to play with or anything else you can think of; you can find it right here.

The Beagle is a breed that is as rich in breed history, as in what breeds it took to get where it is today. On more that one occasion the breed almost completely died out, and it wasn’t until the beginning of the 20th century that the dog finally had a firm foot hold. The Beagle became recognized by the AKC in 1884. A Beagle by the name of Derawunda Vixen won Best in Show at Crufts in 1959. The Beagle has always done better in the U.S. than in its native country of Britain. The Beagle stands 13 to 16 in. tall at the withers and weighs anywhere between 18 to 35 lbs. Females being on the smaller end of the scale. Well muscled the Beagle has a smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors. Tri-colored Beagles are most common and popular, but they also come in Bi-colors variations as well these colors include lemon, liver, tan, blue, and black. The can also come ticked or freckled. Beagles have one of the keenest noses around…something a new Beagle owner should never forget. Bred for the chase the Beagle is a die hard hunter.
