The Beagle breed tends to have a short attention span when it comes to training so it’s a good idea to keep the training sessions consistent and short.  Beagle puppies do learn quickly as they are very intelligent dogs. You want your puppy to learn good habits from the very start so rewarding your puppy when they do good is a great technique and a very important part of puppy training.  They want to please you and they want the treat so it’s a win win situation for the both of you.

Potty training your Beagle can take some time but they will catch on.  You could teach your dog to touch a bell on the door anytime they need to go out if there is not access to a dog door in your house.  As a puppy, putting them on a leash and taking them to one spot in the yard to go to the bathroom also has been very effective.  Otherwise, they will go sniffing around the yard for quite some time and will be on their own schedule and not yours.  This way they will know they are out there to go to the bathroom and not for a scavenger hunt.

The Beagle is a breed that is as rich in breed history, as in what breeds it took to get where it is today. On more that one occasion the breed almost completely died out, and it wasn’t until the beginning of the 20th century that the dog finally had a  firm foot hold. The Beagle became recognized by the AKC in 1884. A Beagle by the name of  Derawunda Vixen won Best in Show at Crufts in 1959. The Beagle has always done better in the U.S. than in its native country of Britain. The Beagle stands 13 to 16 in. tall at the withers and weighs anywhere between 18 to 35 lbs. Females being on the smaller end of the scale. Well muscled the Beagle has a smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors. Tri-colored Beagles are most common and popular, but they also come in Bi-colors variations as well these colors include lemon, liver, tan, blue, and black. The can also come ticked or freckled. Beagles have one of the keenest noses around…something a new Beagle owner should never forget. Bred for the chase the Beagle is a  die hard hunter.
